Simulation of passive thermal retrofitting techniques in an earthquake-resistant building: A case study of a building in Thakle Namuna Basti, Melamchi, Nepal

Abstract Thermal comfort is a relatively emerging topic in the Nepalese context. The role of thermal building performance foreshadowed by peoples’ emphasis on only structural aspect and active heating/cooling systems. This paper analyzes effectiveness passive retrofitting techniques an earthquake-resistant small community called Thakle Namuna Basti Melamchi, Nepal. Only three are used this simulation; addition gypsum plaster wall, use foam floor, application double-glazed windows. study was conducted through two-phased survey, simulation TRNSYS. heating cooling loads before after compared. It showed that applying reduced overall annual load 35% winter but increased 4% summer.
